Glenn Beck Makes Another Mistake, Issues Another Fake Apology

Last week, Glenn Beck circulated on Twitter and Facebook(link is external) a fake tweet ostensibly sent by Donald Trump in which Trump supposedly announced that he voted for President Obama’s re-election in 2012.

The tweet was obviously fake.

For one, it didn’t include the blue check mark shown on verified Twitter accounts, including Trump’s, and anyone could have gone back(link is external) to check on Trump’s(link is external) tweets(link is external) from Election Night, when he sent out a flurry of anti-Obama statements, including several tweets(link is external) calling for a revolution(link is external).

Beck, who is not(link is external) exactly(link is external) known(link is external) for(link is external) his(link is external) accuracy(link is external), said that while he apologizes(link is external) for sharing the hoax tweet, Trump is still a “perfect progressive” who “voted for Obama in '08(link is external),” an assertion for which he cited no evidence except for his own gut feeling.

Then, on his radio show yesterday, Beck repeated the language of the fake 2012 tweet(link is external) to claim that Trump backed Obama in his first campaign. “He likes to win and he votes for winners,” Beck said of Trump.

During the 2008 campaign, Trump said(link is external) he was “very strongly” for McCain and endorsed him on “Larry King Live,” donating(link is external) to McCain’s campaign and hailing(link is external) his “amazing” and “courageous” choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate. (Trump’s views of McCain have since changed(link is external), but his views of Palin have not.)

You can add this to the growing list of Beck’s disingenuous(link is external) apologies(link is external) and failure(link is external) to(link is external) do(link is external) basic(link is external) research(link is external).
